Lichen Community Primary School was established in the year 2005 by Mr. Phuentsho Dorji along with thirty Four Students. The school nests on a gentle slope below the Lichen Village.

The school has under gone a major development since 2005. The Principal, Mr. phuentsho Dorji recalls that the school had only two building with a single teacher in the initial year. Today the school has four buildings- two acedamic block, a store, a library, an office and a staffroom.

The school is also connected with the feeder road and has an electricity connection. If one travels from Trashi Yangtse in a car, its a one and half hours journey and if one hikes then it takes approximately three hours to reach the school.
Mr. Phuentsho Dorji who has been the principal of the school ever since 2005 is from Chokhorling, Pema gatshel. There are six teachers today with 67 students. The school strives towards giving better education to the younger ones.
