Cultural Show as part of SHERIG CENTURAY CELEBRATION

On Saturday, the school staged a cultural show for the community people. It was done as part of a Sherig century celebration, which aimed to educate the community folks on our rich cultural diversity.

The dances included in the programme were Zhungdra, Boedra and Rigsar. Four houses (Tag, Seng, chung & Druk) competed in each category rigorously to win the first prize. To make the competition more liberal and fair, the judges were chosen from the community. The village tshogpa graced the occasion as a chief guest.

To make the show happen, Mrs. Tenzin Wangmo, Mrs. Lhamo and Ms. Karma Dema worked tirelessly along with the students. Mrs. TW initiated Rigsar Dances while Mrs. Lhamo Boedra and similarly Ms. KD Zhungdra. The songs chosen for this particular show were all contemporary hits in the locality.
The programme started with school captains (Tashi Gyeltshen & Yega Leksem) addressing the welcome speech which was followed by the dances and ended with the vote of thanks by Mani Wangmo and Karma Choden.

Since it was a part of Sherig century celebration, every aspect of role play in the programme included just the students. Teachers acted as a guide. Although chung house won the competition, it did not matter to us and their parents because for us, everyone of them were a winner for just being there in the team.
An elderly lady who came to witness the programme said, ‘it’s wonderful to see our children taking up such a big role which is a sign of them growing up. We are just proud of them’. Well we couldn’t agree less with her.

At the end of the day, we as their teachers felt a sense of relief mixed with happiness for a young children being able to fulfill a gallant role, if given a chance. We could also see their parent’s faces brighten with humility for their children’s performances.

A tea party with the parents after the programme, gave us a platform to converse on their children’s strength and disposition.
